Popular Port Harcourt social reformer and Activist, Andy Akpotive fulfills his promises of donating shoes to motherless homes, primary schools

A month ago, precisely on November 1st, 2019, well-known human rights activist, Andy Akpotive made a public appeal for generous donations to assist in the purchase of 1500 pairs of school shoes as gifts to pupils/students who go to school barefooted and those with well worn out shoes. This initiative was borne after Mr. Akpotive spotted some pupils walking back from school without any shoes on their feet (Read here).

In a Facebook post, he expressed his desire to distribute these pairs of shoes as part of activities to mark his birthday being December 1st (See here)

It is said, that Obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it and so it was, that after successful purchase of the shoes and whilst arrangements were on, there came a directive that permission ought to be granted by the Ministry of Education before distribution could take place.

This, according to school officials, was because of the likelihood of a ritual scare guise as benevolence.

Since there was a will, there had to be a way and on Friday, 29th November, 2019, the shoes were distributed to pupils of a school at Choba, Motherless babies home, and the rest will be given via a radio program.
